The Mircom MIX-M500X is an isolator module for addressable fire alarm loops. It protects loop communication during a short circuit. As a result, a fault in one section will not disable the whole loop.
The module is an automatic switch. Specifically, it opens when the loop voltage drops below four volts. Then it isolates the shorted segment from the rest of the loop.
How the Mircom MIX-M500X Protects the Loop
First, install isolators between groups of devices on the loop. If a short occurs between two isolators, both open immediately. Therefore, they isolate only the affected devices.
Meanwhile, the remaining devices on the loop keep operating. As a result, the system stays in service during the fault. In addition, Mircom recommends no more than 25 devices per protected group.
