The Silent Knight 5220 module is a fire direct connect module for municipal alarm reporting. It links a compatible Silent Knight fire alarm control panel to a city master box. Alternatively, it provides a polarity-reversal output to a remote station receiving unit. Either way, it gives the panel an NFPA 72-compliant path for off-premises alarm transmission.
Operation is simple and fail-safe. During an alarm, the 5220 reverses the polarity of its output current. During a trouble condition, it removes current entirely. Consequently, the receiving end can distinguish alarms from troubles. The circuit is supervised for opens and ground faults. However, note one limit: the 5220 cannot be used for sprinkler supervisory service.
Installing the Silent Knight 5220 Module
Honeywell’s SK-5208 manual documents the 5220 in detail. The module requires four wiring connections to the panel. It mounts through a cabinet knockout using a short conduit run, not exceeding 20 feet. For city box service, the combined coil and wire resistance must not exceed 30 ohms. Then a panel NAC is programmed as “direct connect” to drive the module. Also, the remote indication cannot reset until the panel condition clears and the panel resets.
