The System Sensor SMB500-WH is a white surface-mount back box for System Sensor SpectrAlert Advanced wall-mount notification appliances. It provides a flush look on a finished wall surface.
Surface-mount back boxes give an electrical enclosure for appliances installed on surfaces where a recessed box is not practical. As a result, the SMB500 lets contractors install a SpectrAlert wall strobe or horn/strobe directly on concrete, block, or finished drywall. In addition, the white finish coordinates with white wall appliances.
Typical Applications
Surface-mount back boxes fit retrofits and exposed-wall installations. For example, mechanical rooms, parking structures, gymnasiums, and concrete-wall corridors commonly use them. Therefore, the SMB500-WH is the right choice when a recessed 4-square box is not feasible.

Notes on Compatibility
The SMB500-WH is sized for SpectrAlert Advanced wall-mount appliances. However, ceiling-mount appliances use a different surface box. Furthermore, the red version of the same back box is the SMB500-R — verify color and orientation against the appliance you are pairing it with.
