The Simplex 4098-9601 is a TrueAlarm photoelectric smoke detector. It works on conventional 2-wire and 4-wire initiating device circuits. Unlike analog addressable detectors, it makes its own alarm decision locally.
An on-board microprocessor runs TrueAlarm drift compensation. As a result, the detector stays accurate as dust accumulates. It also delivers intelligent detection without an addressable loop controller. Therefore, it suits conventional IDC wiring.
Detection and Testing
A louvered chamber directs airflow to the photoelectric element. Furthermore, this improves smoke capture in open ceiling areas. Standard sensitivity is a nominal 2.8%/ft obscuration. In addition, a magnetic test starts a functional alarm. The LED then shows general sensitivity status. As a result, technicians can test without aerosol.

Discontinued — Replacement
Simplex has discontinued the 4098-9601. The current replacement is the 4098-5601 photoelectric detector. Existing units may remain in service per AHJ guidance. However, verify base compatibility when fitting 4098-5601 heads on existing bases.
