The System Sensor PC2RL-LF is a 2-wire, ceiling-mount low frequency sounder strobe from the L-Series, in red with FIRE marking. It produces a 520 Hz ± 10% square-wave tone. Specifically, NFPA 72 requires that low frequency tone for notification in sleeping areas.
Research behind the code change showed 520 Hz tones are more effective at waking sleeping occupants. Therefore, the PC2RL-LF fits hotels, dormitories, apartments, and other sleeping spaces. The xenon strobe flashes at 1 Hz and meets ADA visible-signaling requirements.
System Sensor PC2RL-LF Key Features
- 520 Hz ± 10% square-wave tone for NFPA 72 sleeping-space compliance
- Field-selectable ceiling candela settings: 15, 30, 75, 95, 115, 150, and 177 cd
- Rotary switch for High/Low volume, Temporal 3, Temporal 4, and Continuous patterns
- Plug-in design with universal mounting plate and wiring-continuity shorting spring
- Directly replaces legacy SpectrAlert Advance low frequency models
- Compatible with MDL3R(A)/MDL3W(A) Sync•Circuit modules
Specifications
- Operating voltage: 16–33 V (regulated 24 VDC/FWR nominal)
- Sound output: 80 dBA high / 76 dBA low (UL reverberant, 16–33 V)
- Current draw: 98–305 mA depending on tone, volume, and candela setting
- Dimensions: 6.8″ diameter × 2.47″ deep including lens
- Mounting: 4×4×1½″ back box, 4″ octagon, or double-gang; SBBCRL surface back box optional
- Operating temperature: 32°F to 120°F; humidity 10–93% non-condensing
- Listings: UL 1971 and UL 464 (UL/ULC file S4011), FM approved (PR452768), CSFM
However, note one application limit: low frequency sounder strobe units do not support two-stage operation. Sounder-only models cover that requirement in coded mode.
